Fluff Your Tree
Don’t neglect the most important part! Separate the branches from one another, then adjust them so they aren’t clustered together. Not only will this give the tree a fuller look, but it will also leave more space for your favourite ornaments. Repeat this step all around the tree, being careful not to leave any big holes.
Hang Your Garland
Choose a hidden branch at the top of your tree, and tie your garland around the base of it. Then, create a loop by twisting the ribbon around a branch 10-12” lower than the first branch, securing it into place. Make sure to leave a gap between the ribbon and tree, for more dimension. Whether you prefer the diagonal, vertical, or horizontal look, feel free to try different methods of wrapping your ribbon around your tree.
Unleash Your Imagination
For a unique look, alternate contrasting ribbon colours. Choose 2-3 colours for your tree’s theme, and stick to these colours when selecting your ribbons. For a tree that makes a statement, opt for shiny or glittery ribbons. For a more rustic look, choose natural ribbons with organic motifs.
Hang Your Ornaments with Care
There are three main types of ornaments: themed, accent, and core. Themed decorations typically feature icons or Holiday characters in great detail. Spread these out evenly around your tree. Accent ornaments come in simple shapes and silhouettes and look best placed in between themed ornaments. Core ornaments feature plain, solid colours; these should make up most of your tree’s decorations. Be sure to scatter core ornaments around all parts of the tree branches, closer to the trunk and centre of the tree as well.
Top Your Tree
Install your tree topper by securing it onto the top branches. Put your topper in the spotlight by making a bauble garland: thread a few ornaments onto a metal wire and hang it around the bottom of the topper.
