What You Need for This Project

Prime the Mason Jar Lids

Remove the centre pieces of your mason jar lids from their outer rings. Then, use a foam paint brush to apply 2-3 coats of primer on the centre of each lid.

Wait until each coat is completely dry before applying the next one. Make sure the lids are completely covered and you can’t see any metal peeking through the primer before moving on to the next step.

Paint the Lids with Chalkboard Paint

Once the primer has dried, use another foam brush to apply 3 coats of chalkboard paint. Wait 1 hour between each coat to ensure the paint doesn’t wear off or scratch.

Glue the Lids into Their Rings

Use super glue to attach the lid centres back into their rings.

Tip: Apply the super glue like a sealer around the ring rather than at the bottom. This way, the glue won’t ooze out when you press the centres back into their rings.

Decorate with Ribbon or Twine

Wrap ribbon or twine around your chalkboard Christmas tree ornaments for decoration. Tie a bow at the very top with loops that are wide enough to slip around tree branches so that you can hang your ornaments on your Christmas tree.

Draw Cute Christmas Doodles

Use chalk (or a chalk marker) to write festive messages on your chalkboard ornaments. Or, get creative and doodle cute cartoons like a snowman, snowflake, or jolly Santa Claus. The possibilities are endless!

Tip: Update your ornaments every year &mdsash; once the base has been made, erasing the previous design and drawing something new is quick, easy, and fun!
