How to Make a Festive Wooden Christmas Sign

Print the template to trace the letter H on your project.


  1. 1

    Cut the Board and Trace the Circles

  2. Steps:

    Cut the spruce hobby board to a size of 24" by 36".
  4. 1.2
    Trace a line at a distance of 6 ½" from the side of the board. Measure 7", 18", and 29" from the top of the board to mark the circle centres.

    Use a compass to draw three circles that are each 8" in diameter.

Pro Tip

Before cutting, use clamps to keep the hobby board stabilized.

    Cut Out Each Circle

    Make a hole to the side of one circle with a drill and a drill bit for a jigsaw blade to go into.

    Cut out the circle with the jigsaw along the traced line. Repeat for the next two circles.

    Use a sander to sand down the hobby board (or simply do it by hand).

    Create a support rod using scraps from the hobby board (35" by 2.5" with a 5° angle).

    Apply a White Finish

  2. Steps:

    Paint the hobby board and the support rod with two coats of white paint.

    Trace the Three Hs

  2. Steps:

    Measure to find the location of the Hs and trace them onto the hobby board using the template. There are two ways to do this:

    1. Cut the letters out from the template, place them on the hobby board, and trace their outlines.

    2. Use a pencil to colour in the letters (making sure to stay in the lines). Press the coloured side onto the hobby board, and colour the back of the letter to transfer the pencil onto the hobby board.

    Use any colour you prefer to paint the Hs (e.g., black, gold, red).

    Add the Final Details

    Install the hinge to the hobby board and the support rod.

    Attach the small chain
