I'm thrilled to be revealing our master bedroom walk-in closet
makeover today! Thanks to Lowe’s Canada for partnering with me on this project.
If you recall my article, How to Make your Walk-In Closet Look and Function Better,
our closet was a builder basic one that really didn't function well. It was stuffed
to the gills with things we'd shoved in there when we moved into our house and was
generally an unorganized mess. Plus, it was painted hospital green, which was um, yucky!
After emptying the walk-in closet and sorting through our clothes,
we narrowed down what we actually needed in the space and came up
with a plan for how to make our space function much better for us (on a budget).
And now our master bedroom walk-in closet looks like this.
We've never had a walk-in closet before, or at least one that was so organized.
And even though it's only been a couple of weeks since we finished it,
my husband and I are both very much enjoying the sheer organization and
increased pretty-factor of it all. Luckily, Lowe’s Canada carries a large
selection of closet organization products. Products, like hangers and laundry
organizers, to help keep everything well within reach.
So, how did we get this dreamy level of storage? It was much easier than you think!
The first thing we needed to address, after painting
the walls, was the poor lighting. In our original closet,
there was simply one of those bare bulb light fixtures
you'd expect to find in a basement or garage. Not exactly
helpful or conducive for choosing clothes in the morning!
We decided to go with a simple, budget-friendly
schoolhouse style semi-flush mount ceiling fixture,
with a bright white LED bulb hidden in the frosted
glass shade by Allen + Roth. Are you looking to add
some lighting in your space? Be sure to check out
Lowe’s Ideas & How To articles, which can help you
choose the right lighting for your room!
After adding lighting, we then based our design around
two ClosetMaid SuiteSymphony Starter Towers, one in the
16" version and one
in the 25" version. They were the
anchor pieces for each side of the closet.
His side of the closet also got two levels of hanging storage
space for his button-down shirts and jerseys. Our suitcases
are simply tucked in at the back corner out of the way.
On my side of the closet, we added in the narrower
Starter Tower. Since I have a dresser in the bedroom,
I didn't need quite as much space for folded clothes
in the closet. We added one hanging rod to the top left,
for my dresses, longer tunics and sweaters, and a lower
hanging bar on the right for my regular shirts and blouses.
Underneath the higher hanging rod, we tucked in the ClosetMaid
Laminate Stacking Storage for my shoes and boots.
Here's where we got a little creative with the storage.
Instead of adding a secondary hanging bar to the right
of the shelving tower, we installed a shelf at about
counter height (36 inches from the floor) for jewelry storage.
I've always wanted a better organized
place to keep all my earrings, bracelets and
necklaces, and this little space is perfect for
that. We finished the shelf with some caulking
along the walls (leaving no cracks for jewelry
to fall through) and then added a couple of
jewelry organizers and a simple mirror on the wall.
We finished the space with a rug,
some baskets, a leaning mirror and
chair that we already had to give it a
little bit of pretty style too. Of course,
if you don't have those things already,
Lowe's has plenty of stylish decor too!
In fact, Lowe’s offers one of the largest
selections of home decor anywhere, so chances
are they’ve got exactly what you’re looking
for. Accommodating our walk-in closet for two
people may seem like a daunting task due to the
small space that was available, but thanks to a
variety of closet organization solutions and products
available from Lowe’s, we were able to make this
We are so happy with how this makeover turned out.
Thanks to Lowe’s, I was able to find what I was
looking for from the top brands all in one place.
Thank you for following along with us. We hope
that you've been able to see some ideas to
incorporate in your own closet as well.
