Planting and Care of Your Green Path Perennials

Choose the right plants for your location

Determine the amount of light you have at the height of summer. high temperatures combined with low rainfall in summer cause the most stress to your plants. Correctly identifying what your site will be like during the most stressful season will help you choose plants that will thrive>

Full Sun means more than 6 1/2 hours of direct sun daily.
Semi-shade means 2 to 6 hours of direct sun daily.
Shade means less than 2 hours of direct sun daily.

Choose the right plants for the foot traffic you anticipate

Light means occasional footsteps will fall on your plants.

Moderate means a few times a day, foot traffic will occur on your plants.

Heavy means your plants will be walked upon often.

Soil

A loose, open soil is ideal for new plants to get established. Do not plant Green Path Perennials in a soggy site. Modify your soil, if necessary, by adding plenty of weed-free organic matter. Homemade compost, peat moss, garden soil and triple-mix are all excellent sources of organic matter.

Planting

Plant your Green path Perennials at the same depth they were growing in their pot. Water well after planting. We recumbent the use of Transplanter Fertilizer when planting. Space plants closely enough to fill in completely within two or three growing seasons. If the space available between paving stones does not allow the full rootball to be planted, slice through the rootball with a utility knife, and tuck it in. Water your Green Path Perennials regularly until they are established.

Care

Most Green Path Perennials are maintenance free plants. Just plant, water and watch them grow. Once established you can mow your Green Path Perennials if necessary.

Use an organic mulch, 5 cm thick, to minimize future weed problems. Mulch will help keep the soil moist during hot weather, and will beautify your yard at the same time!

Fertilize every spring to keep your plants healthy and vigourous. Avoid lawn formulations with high nitrogen if you want to encourage lots of brightly coloured flowers. Never allow a weed and feed fertilizer to come in contact with your Green Path Perennials - it will damage or even kill your plants.
