Protect Your Home From Burglars

Follow these tips to prevent your home from becoming a target.

  • Don't leave spare keys under a doormat, in a planter or anywhere around the front door.
  • Keep valuables out of sight from windows especially on the main floor.
  • Plant shrubs with thorns or prickly bushes underneath windows to make it difficult for intruders to gain access through windows.
  • Store values in your child's drawer or closet. Burglars often ransack a master bedroom, but often leave children's rooms untouched.
  • Keep the car keys next to your bed. If you hear a suspicious noise at night, hit the panic button. The alarm will draw attention to your home and undoubtedly scare off the burglar.
  • When going on vacation, load the car in your garage or the morning you leave, to ward off burglars watching for signs of people leaving.
  • Double check all window and door locks before you leave for a getaway.
  • Even if you don't have a security system, you can purchase a decal that may ward of thieves.
