This post is sponsored by Lowe's Canada, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Our patio area was looking tired and sad and needed a total overhaul. I knew budget was a huge factor and I was feeling pretty sentimental about keeping a beautiful vintage wrought iron patio set that had seen better days.
We had just finished refreshing the sitting area on the other end of the deck and felt that the backyard was finally coming together for the first time after living in our home for 5 years.
This was going to be a great summer outside for al fresco dining under the stars, and then of course it’s been mostly rain here in our neck of the woods. Best laid plans!
I always start my reno projects by planting a seed, an idea, an abstract vision, but they never actually come to fruition until I actually visit the store, peruse the aisles, and let my imagination run wild! Visiting my local Lowe’s got my imagination going big time. I was initially thinking of going in one direction and then felt super inspired by what they had to offer. I had no idea how easy and affordable this project could be though. I was so impressed by the awesome selection of inspiring patio accessories that Lowe’s had to offer!
So, when I got home with all my inspiring goodies I started off with spraying out my great aunt’s vintage wrought iron dining set that had so much history and memories of me being at her house.
I chose a traditional look with glossy white and used Tremclad that would stand up to the test of time and our brutal Canadian weather! However, because I am a sucker for spray paint I got a little carried away in the paint aisle and found the most darling pink Peony Pink, to be exact.
They have such a great collection of colours in stock, it’s amazing I was able to stop at just two paint projects! I wanted to refresh some old shutters for the backdrop of our patio and add a little colour, and the pink just spoke to me!
Now that the basics were set, all I had to do was bring in the wow factor. I was immediately drawn to the black and white sun pillows that fit perfectly on my dining chairs, and the large black and glass modern lanterns that would ooze ambiance on those warm summer evenings while lingering over that last glass of wine at the dining table.
On one of my first trips to get inspired at Lowe’s, I had seen a faux grass area rug and was super intrigued. I decided to pass on it that visit, but a week later when I returned I was scouring the isles for a similar look that I knew would pull the look together. I found something even better for my space and such a fun and neat thing for small decks, balconies, patio areas, or even a garden where you crave a little more green.
I found the faux grass tiles, and I am in LOVE!!! They totally feel like real grass and can be assembled all different ways and you can buy any number of boxes to cover larger areas.
As I was checking out and feeling pretty good with all the goodies I had for this patio redo, I saw the most darling hanging succulents that were super hardy and a great addition. All the plants seemed to be so happy at Lowe’s. These hanging succulents were destined to be hung from an old wooden ladder, right next to the newly painted shutters, bringing the old and new together in beautiful form!
That's what this backyard redo was all about! I was super happy to combine the new, the old, and the totally refreshed in this inspired space that I know I will be spending a lot of summer evenings in. At least when the rain stops!
