Oh, the weather outside is frightful ... well, it's mostly rainy. But on the West Coast, I'm hoping that we get a bit of snow this year.
There's something so magical and peaceful about a blanket of white over everything. It covers all of the blemishes of the world, and instantly makes everything seem beautiful and still.
Here are my top 5 tips to create your own Cold Spell Christmas in your living room.
When I was ready to take on the Cold Spell theme, I immediately thought of the flocked tree that
was waiting in our storage space. It's probably my most favourite Christmas purchase.
Flocked branches make everything seem that much "frostier". Snowy tree limbs bring the Winter Wonderland with them, as soon as the tree is hauled out of its box.
I decked the tree with icy floral picks and blue and silver balls. I actually doubted myself for a
minute when I was holding the box of blue glass ornaments in the store aisle. I had originally
convinced myself that my tree would be monochromatic — just white and chilly silver.
But the blues were calling to me, and I think they were the right choice. They make the tree seem
much more visually interesting and take down the "temperature" just a few more notches.
I also couldn't resist when I walked past the snowy pinecone display. The girls had great fun
hanging the oversized pinecones all over the tree. As I fretted over the floral picks and adjusted the ribbon, they carefully hung the glass ornaments and crystal snowflakes.
Because I love a decadent tree, I used both ribbon and decor mesh to create an opulent and
dramatic look. When it comes to trimming the tree, I feel like "more is more." Tell me I'm not the only one!
In order to create contrast, I love a cozy, furry throw and soft, white pillow cushions to "warm" the chilliness of the tree's decor.
I traded my oversized clock for this large, flocked wreath. I love how natural it is ... and the fact that it's got a strand of battery operated LED lights. This piece gives off a warm glow, unlike the cool, blue hues that I associate with LED lights. And it runs on a timer!
You can't ask for more than that — I'm thinking about getting one more for our front door!
It's just waiting for company, don't you think?
