Very poor quality and does not last
By Edmond from Markham on Mar 11, 2015

I purchased and installed 12 treads for my basement stairs.. cutting, staining and installation was straight foward (cut to size, then glue and nail into place). everything looked great for 2 months.. then they all start to crack and the seams are opening up on the veneer. this is happening to every single step.

I fully regret not paying extra to get solid stair tread caps.. now I will have to redo it again, with 10x more work to remove these ones!

Horrible stay away

I installed 12 treads on my basement stairs.. install was straight forward and looked great for 2 months.. but now every single tread is splitting and cracking with minimal use. it is a thin veneer so i cant even sand and restain..

I was attracted by the good rice point but now regret it so much because itll be 10x more work to remove them. i installed them as per instructions and stained with a water based poly like i do with all hardwood and never had a problem like this.

Lowes should be ashamed to carry such junk...

Stay away.

Agree with some of the other posters. not even 3 months and every single step is splitting. Don't waste your money on this band-aid solution.

Horrible quality. Four months in and wood is coming apart. Steps are in our basement and we are 2 seniors so not much wear

Installed 6 steps easy to do. Cut tight saves a lot of filling. Buying 6 more for upstairs.

Poor durability

I had cut down the steps and had them ready to go as the final step of a larger renovation project. When I was ready to install the steps, 4 out of 10 were showing signs of cracking/splitting along the width of the step. One other had the veneer separating from the core. I have serious doubts this product will survive long term usage and plan to return them and find something else.

Ten stair steps, one afternoon: beautiful!
By Gil from Ontario on Dec 21, 2013

If not for the fact that I had to drive to a relative's home to cut the pieces, I would have done ten stair steps in about three hours, including the time to buy the product.
Although you can technically do the job with a circular saw, the use of a table saw and a glide miter saw make it fast and easy.
Also, get or borrow a finishing (air) nailer. Once the pieces are cut to size, you can install ten stair steps in ten minutes. The other two hours and 40 minutes is all the prep work, buying the product, driving, loading/unloading, cutting pieces etc.
