This is an excelent generator!
By Lowe's Guest from Plant City, FL, USA on Apr 11, 2014
After I got the generator home and put the wheels etc. on it I fueled it added the included oil and it started with no issues. It does have a battery charger with it but the factory charge was good. I went ahead and charged it for 24 hours after the initial run. It does not charge its own battery unless you plug the charger into the generator. This Generator powers my entire 3500 sq. foot house. The power bar is useful in seeing how much load is on the generator at any given moment. I ran Lights, three celling fans, two TV''s, and entertainment system (Game console, Blue Ray and Sound system# two refrigerator/freezer combos, and a chest freezer plus my well pump all that at two bars on the Power bar #Out of five#. I as well ran a cook top briefly and two vent fans. I bought this for storm related power failures and it did not disappoint me. I have a Battery backup/Filter #UPS) on my 55" TV and entertainment system to filter the power given that almost all portable generators deliver power that is not as clean as utility. I work with backup power systems daily for my work and this is a good generator for the price. it is heavy and a bit unwieldy until you get the wheels on it. It comes with supports built into the box so you can mount the wheels and then roll it out of the box. the Auto Idle is not too useful when powering a home or RV given that if the generator detects any load whatsoever it runs at speed. But if you are using it to run power tools or what not that is a great fuel saving feature. This generator sips fuel I ran as I described above for 14 hours before I had to cycle it down to refuel it. I installed a Manual transfer switch that locks out the utility power and allows the generator to power my house using my existing power panel connected to the L14-30 Receptacle via a 50 foot generator cord. It came with a Cord-set that breaks out the L14-30 R to four standard outlets so to run a house you need the transfer switch and the cord that connects to the transfer switch inlet. It will not run my four ton central HVAC unit but I have a backup window AC unit that it does run just fine. It can run the dryer and the water heater or oven but that loads the generator right up so it is a good idea to turn off other things and run those separately when you need them and then turn them back off. the sound level is acceptable and it is not bothersome from inside the house or for the neighbors. I run it once a month for about an hour whether or not the power fails and transfer the house to it so that it runs under load to keep the unit in good working order.

Generac XT8000 Generator Review

The design of this generator far exceeds the cheaper competitors I bought a few years ago on many levels.

Looking forward to the next power outage ?

Crazy but true. I am looking forward to using it. With the many Generators on the market, there are only a few that have the features ,product support and built as well as this one. I brought my Generac xt8000e with time on my hands. I wanted a Generator that would have more than enough power to run pretty much everything I needed to run in the house under a black out. My planning ahead also lead me to purchase a Natural Gas kit from Carb USA to run my generator from my house BBQ outlet. The Electric power flows into the house on a 220 RV inlet socket to a circuit breaker with a interlock bar installed. This mets code in my area. I found that purchasing the generator was easy. The hard part was brain storming about where to place the generator, how to feed the house, how many circuit can be run without tripping a breaker and marking the circuits of need will hopefully pay off in the future black out. Look for the house with the lights on ;)

Missing parts curbs my enthusiasm
By Lowe's Guest from Branson, MO, USA on Mar 01, 2014
We wanted to be prepared for a major ice storm that was forecast for our area. After much research and days of looking at generators, I chose this Generac model. I was excited to get it all put together and try this thing out before we actually need it. We live an hour away from the nearest Lowes store. Unfortunately there were no nuts to go with the bolts that secure the handles and the front foot pieces. I now have the generator sitting on wooden blocks, hoping we don''t have to use it before I can actually get the thing assembled correctly. I''m sure the long term benefits will outweigh all the short term frustrations.

XT8000E
By Jim from Belleville Ontario on Feb 24, 2014

I Was A little reluctant to buy another Generac, the last on (5500) was louder than my Diesel,so i returned it with no problems at all, but it was time, so I purchased the XT8000E. I was quite shocked that it seemed quieter than the 5500, maybee it is the idle control, not to sure.
The 8000 has more than enough power to run all my tools in the garage, anything that I want in case the power goes out, and portable heaters in a pinch. The unit starts very good,(electric or manual) and seems not to bad on gas.
Overall, I am very impressed with it,price was very good when you look at to-days value in Generators.
I wanted a Honda or Yamaha, but I refused to pay the price, and in all honesty, I due beleive this 8000 is as good as the Honda, and it has ALL the features.
For the price, you will not beat it.

Needed for a Power Outage
By Lowe's Guest from Downingtown, PA 19335, USA on Feb 09, 2014
I was looking for a decent generator with ample power available after a recent power outage in PA. I saw this generator on the website and bought it in the store. This generator comes with a 30 AMP 240 VAC power cord that splits into 4 separate 120 VAC plugs for balanced loading. It was a good thing too. I could not plug my gas fired furnace into the GFI outlets without tripping the ground fault. The extra cord allowed me to get my furnace working and the heat back on in the house. It had plenty of power to run my gas furnace, gas water heater, refrigerator, small chest freezer, TV, DVD player and even my neighbors fridge. Even with all the load I had on it, there was still plenty available. The power bar feature showed me barely using one bar. I am now looking into a Manual ATS circuit breaker box too add more load and make the connections easier next time. The electric start was absolutely awesome to use. The generator started every time. My only concern is the frequency output. I measure the voltage and that was perfect. The frequency was about 63 Hz when I started it. I did not measure when it was loaded. No appliances were damaged from the frequency deviation. Overall, I would recommend this product in a pinch or even long term. It is economically priced with several great features.

By Lowe's Guest from Indiana on Feb 06, 2014
Only thing I would have liked to seen was a break in period on the oil sent with the generator. Looks are good, design is great. easy to use.
