Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse, in partnership with Hockey Canada, announced today its commitment to refurbishing ice rinks that are in dire need of repair. The new initiative benefits the many minor hockey teams in Lowe's store communities and encourages participation from municipalities, Lowe's employees and partners alike.

Skills/Compétences Canada, a national not-for-profit organization that actively promotes careers in skilled trades, today hosted the official launch of Skilled Trades and Technology Week 2010 at a joint event that also marked a major funding contribution from home improvement retailer Lowe's.
Alan Huggins, President of Lowe's Canada, today announced a $1.25 million dollar contribution and the company's five year commitment to help Skills/Compétences Canada promote skilled trades and technology professions to youth.

Continuing its growth in the Canadian marketplace, Lowe's Companies Canada, ULC (Lowe's), opened the doors to its first Western Canada store today in Rocky View, a northern suburb of Calgary, Alberta.
The state-of-the-art home improvement store, located at 261199 Crossiron Boulevard, provides 103,000 square feet of retail space and an additional, adjacent garden center of 31,600 square feet.

Lowe's recently opened their 2nd store in Vaughan, and 20th in Canada on October 19th. The new location, at 100 Edgeley Blvd., is conveniently located near Hwy 7 just east of the 400. The Grand Opening Celebration saw many Lowe's Executives, staff, and representatives from City Council take part in the festivities which included – a board cutting ceremony, delicious refreshments, and a cheque presentation to a local charity.

Lowe's announced in 2005 its intentions to open its first stores in the Greater Toronto Area, with as many as 100 stores planned in Canada over time. Each new store that Lowe's builds creates up to 175 local jobs and represents an average investment of more than $18.5 million USD.
