Lowe's in the Community

More than just a place to work - a place to make a difference
When Lowe's enters a new community, we don't just open our doors to the public; we invest ourselves in the community. Since the beginning, we have been committed to getting involved and strengthening the communities we operate in. It is an essential element of how we do business and is evident through a variety of programs that we conduct, such as our Community Rink Reno which helps refurbish local hockey rinks for minor league players. Overall, we support initiatives within three main areas of focus:

  • Safe and Affordable Housing
  • Skills/Trades Education
  • Community Improvement Projects

Social Responsibility
Since opening our first store in 2007, Lowe's Canada has invested over $2.5 MILLION in local communities. Our philanthropic focus surrounds community improvement projects, creating safe and affordable housing, and building awareness and interest amongst youth about skilled trades careers in Canada. Within these areas, Lowe's is primarily committed to supporting projects that have the greatest impact on our communities and that align with our core business - home improvement.

Skills/Compétences Canada
In 2010, Lowe's committed to investing $1.25 million dollars over five years to help Skills/Compétences Canada promote skilled trades and technology professions to youth. The partnership is devoted to provincial and national Skills competition support and a yearly grant program which aims to engage students and teachers looking to improve their school campus, curriculum and surrounding community. The program supports projects in provinces where Lowe's stores are present and will expand to other regions as the company establishes stores in new communities. In 2011, Lowe's Canada awarded over $200,000 in grants to support 29 skill-based school programs in Alberta and Ontario.

Lowe's Community Rink Renovation Program
In partnership with Hockey Canada, Lowe's is committed to helping rebuild the infrastructure of hockey in Canada by refurbishing ice rinks in dire need of repair. The program benefits the many minor hockey teams in Lowe's store communities and encourages participation from municipalities, Lowe's employees and partners alike. Lowe's will invest more than $500,000 over five years to refurbish ten rinks. For more information visit lowes.ca/rinkreno.

Lowe's Heroes Program
Lowe's embraces teamwork as a core value - a critical ingredient to our success as a company and as a corporate citizen. Employees in Canada and abroad have been teaming up through the Lowe's Heroes program to make our communities better places to live. The companywide program encourages employees to adopt a volunteer project with a local non-profit organization or school, and work together to make a difference. From front-end employees to the president of the company, Lowe's Heroes rolls up their sleeves to complete countless community improvement projects each year. For more information on the Lowe's Heroes Program, speak to the Store Manager or HR Manager at your local store.
