Does what I bought it for
By Lowe's Guest from Florence, AZ, USA on Nov 04, 2014
The only two design changes i would make are: (1) a directional output side louvers (2) a more flexible heat exhaust tubing or extra angle elbows. Otherwise the unit cools my 600 sf condo in AZ but only have used it during the fall (not for summer heat) season. Instructions were good and assembly of heat exhaust was easy plus it fit into the sliding door opening. Have only owned unit for one week and have not gotten an electric bill yet, so I have no idea about operating cost.

Working as expected
By Lowe's Guest from Pensacola, FL, USA on Sep 25, 2014
Bought this unit for a workshop/shed that was just built. It''s a 10 x 12 with 9 foot walls. Our 55 lb dog also lives in the shed. It''s was August and way to hot in Florida so decided this unit may work. The 10,000 BTU unit was not available. Unpacked the unit and set up in 20 minutes or so. I did have to cut the plastic window piece to length where the unit vents out. The temperature was 86 degrees in the workshop and it cooled down to 74 degrees with no problem (small space). Once the temperature is achieved the compressor kicks off and the fan stays on. The vent tube gets pretty warm so I bought some ducting sleeve insulation and wrapped it around. Seems to be very efficient. No issues with condensation. I have not used it as a dehumidifier. Very pleased with the unit as it will keep the shop cool when working and I know our dog Henry appreciates the comfort!

Not working well for us
By Lowe's Guest from Carlsbad, NM 88220, USA on Sep 22, 2014
We bought this for our 32'' Motorhome, because the roof A/C broke, and we are in the hot humid Texas hill country. This unit can''t even cool the bedroom as the day goes on the temp in the room goes up all the way to about 90 degrees. Thank goodness the part we need for the roof a/c will be here in a couple of days. It is way too hot during the day for us, dogs, and the cat. We have 2 fans also running too. The positive it was easy to install.

Great AC for the price!
By Lowe's Guest from San Diego, CA, USA on Sep 17, 2014
My wife is 6 months pregnant, and gets over heated really easy. We currently rent a house with no AC, and we had to get something for the incoming heatwave here in San Diego. Unlike many portable AC units, we needed something that would fit a 73" vertical window. This did the trick! This AC is a little noisier than I thought it would be: approximately 65 db. However it is a 12000 BTU A/C. Cools off our 20x20 master bedroom nicely too! On a super hot day, I can bring the room, and adjacent master-bathroom, down to about 77.

If you have to use a portable AC unit... well it''s not the best way to go. I''ve had a Royal Sovereign from Sears and a DeLonghi unit before I got my first Idyllis unit about 21/2 yrs ago. The Royal Sovereign and DeLonghi units were terrible. Both claimed they evaporated the humidity without needing to drain the water bucket inside. Both units dripped gallons of water on the floor! Each unit died after about 2 yrs of heavy use. The Idyllis unit cools about the same as the first 2 units. Our bedroom gets up to 96 on a hot SoCal summer day, so the only things that will do a good job would be insulation, a powreful attic fan and/or turbine to get rid of the really hot air above the room. Back to the Idyllis unit.... it has a continuous drain feature -- use it! You need this unless you''re using it in a very arid desert area. A big problem with these portable AC units is dirt mucking up the workings of the unit. Our house is very dusty and the intake air filter has to be cleaned weekly, so air that gets pulled into the unit has to be pretty dusty, and there''s not a filter on the air circulates to cool the condenser and compressor! Because these units are not easy to service, my solution was to get 2 units! When one gets dirty inside to the point of not working (compressor cycling on and off most of the day#, I take it to my local appliance repair guy (who says he deals with a lot of these portable units) and get it cleaned. Portable ACs simply are inferior. But... this one is marginally acceptable.

Admirable Performance
By Lowe's Guest from Illinois, USA on Aug 30, 2014
The Idylis 12,000-BTU 500-sq ft 115-Volt Portable Air Conditioner performs exactly as advertised, which is a quality not all products share. Keep in mind when purchasing a portable AC unit that they are most effective as a subliminal unit to your primary cooling system. Trying to get a portable unit to cool a room when the inside temperature is 90 plus degrees is a futile effort. That’s what I was trying to do. Thinking the unit was not working correctly I measured the air flow. The temperature the unit was producing was 61 degrees, as indicated in the manual. The unit was able to cool my bed room (~196 sq ft) to 76 degrees. As it was already 90 degrees in my apartment, I did not test the heating function. If you are going to use this unit as an AC, do not attach the continuous drain hose (a mistake I made). Leave the unit as is out of the box. This unit recycles humidity to cool its self. Having attached the drain hose, I can verify the quality of the dehumidifier. Thinking the hose was for a little overflow, I figured I had plenty of time to get a bucket. About ten minutes later my floor was covered with water. The box contains all the essential accessories, which is a drain hose and window kit. The drain hose works just fine. Unfortunately the window kit, is a window kit. It is a standard issue slide to the width you need and close the window on it. Like other window kits, this will not form a good seal. However I have a tip to solve this issue, and no duct tape required. First get a couple pieces of rubber pipe insulation. I used Frost King 3/4-in x 6-ft Rubber Plumbing Tubular Pipe Insulation(Available at Lowe''s). The concept is to use the pipe insulation to form a border around the window kit. Measure and cut the insulation an inch or two longer than you need. This will help if you have to trim the size. Wrap the insulation under the bottom of the window kit and slide the kit into place. Next slide the two insulation pieces along the side of the kit. Then attach the top insulation piece and close the window. Obviously there might need to be some fine tuning of the insulation and width of the kit, but you get the idea. Over all, a great unit. I definitely recommend it.

What a life saver!
By Lowe's Guest from Mobile, AL, USA on Aug 30, 2014
When our a/c went out in the middle of a heat wave, this unit was a life saver! Very portable and easily moved from living room to bedroom as needed. Kept the bedroom very cool. The unit kept the living room comfortable but had some difficulty with our cathedral ceilings, running the ceiling fans on high helped. The only issue was that the drain plug is very close to the bottom of the unit and we needed a very shallow pan to drain the water into, and there wasn''t much if you drain it daily and do not wait until the unit gets full. Very pleased with this unit. It will be a great addition to the hurricane kit as it will easily run off a generator.
