Portable AC - Still under evaluation
By Lowe's Guest from Maui, Hawaii, USA on Sep 27, 2013
Although I am still evaluating the pro''s and con''s, here is what I have to say so far: I am using the 2,000 BTU unit in 168 square foot room with vaulted ceilings. Although the unit does blow cold air, it takes more than an hour to bring the temperature down even a couple of degrees. The unit is rated for 500 square feet, but I can''t imagine how long it would take to drop the temperature in a space that large. The convenience of being able to move it around and have the exhaust go out the door or window is a big plus. The unit is quite loud. My deciding factor to keep or return will in the end be the electric bill.

Bought as emergency fill in for home central air
By Lowe's Guest from Fredericksburg, VA, USA on Sep 12, 2013
Only a couple of weeks left of summer heat and I couldn''t afford to replace my AC until next summer. I used it in my 260 sq ft bedroom with a vaulted ceiling, and it took the temperature down to 65 degrees while it was 95 degrees outside. I also tried it in my 1200 sq ft main level, the unit kept it to 80 degrees. It''s not made to cool a large area like this, but it made it tolerable.

Nothing too fancy
By Lowe's Guest from San Antonio, TX, USA on Sep 11, 2013
This 12000 btu portable AC was purchased to supplement my central AC for a bedroom that gets warmer than others. I put a dryer vent into the wall because I dont like the look of a vent hose hanging through the window. After using for one night, the unit does it''s job and got the room down to 64 at night (with the assistance of the house thermostat set to 70). I''m not sure if it would be able to bring the temperature down this low without the help of central AC. Few issues with this unit, the blue light is incredibly bright for night time sleeping. I will need to purchase some sort of tinted tape to be able to sleep. Also, the programming is very basic. There is no way to program a time to turn the unit on/off automatically, theres only a timer that shuts the unit off after a selected amount of time. Going off the sound alone it sounds like it uses a lot of power. I won''t know until I get the utility bill. Also the vent panels need to be manually opened when the unit is turned on, unlike some units that open automatically once they''re powered up. I just leave them open when the unit is on or off so I don''t need to bother with it. Overall, this unit is nothing fancy and it has a few design flaws but it does the job.

Works well
By Lowe's Guest from South Dakota on Sep 03, 2013
The unit was easy to install and works. It will never be better than a window A/C unit but I can''t install a window A/C that is why I got the biggest that Loews had at the time. My central A/C quit and I did repair it but I need to have a backup if it happens again. This unit cools a 15x15 living room and a 12x15 kitchen. Not great but liveable.

This is not an air conditioner
By Lowe's Guest from Hamilton Township, NJ, USA on Sep 03, 2013
Bought this unit to replace a 12000 btu window air conditioner 3 weeks ago. This will not cool like a true air conditioner!! Don''t expect it to cool your room, it will run continuously and may get an empty room down to 74 degrees. But if there are any people in it the room the temp will go right up and the unit will not be able to handle the added body heat. Further if it exceeds 80 degrees outside the unit will not be able to bring the temp down at all. What a waste of money! A fan blowing over a block of ice would be more effective. I am returning this to Lowe''s and replacing it with a real air conditioner!

Great a/c
By Lowe's Guest from Hawaii, USA on Aug 30, 2013
We live in Hawaii and the house we live in doesn''t have a great main air conditioner, it stays at 81 degrees during the day. We needed the extra cool air going through the downstairs as that''s where we are mostly during the day. We have only had this for a few hours and it already works great. The main a/c unit was off and read 79 and dropped down to 77 in less than 5 minutes after turning this portable one on. To me the setup was easy. The only thing they could fix/change is the slats that they use for the windows/door. There is still a crack on the side when using it in the sliding glass door. Need to go back and buy something to get rid of the crack.

Perfect cooling for the garden shed
By Lowe's Guest from Gulf Breeze, FL, USA on Aug 28, 2013
I bought this item few days ago and it managed to keep our backyard shed at 80 degrees F constantly. We are living in the Pensacola area and the sun is very intense in summertime. Normally, we have in our shed a temperature at noontime which easily exceeds 100 degrees F. So this AirCo helps tremendously to keep me alive and well when working in the shed. A few hints from my side: 1.) Buy the 3-years-warranty from Lowes. It will pay out when it comes to replace the AirCo and these 40 bucks extra are definitely worth it. 2.) I sealed the leaks at the shed window with heavy duty transparent duck tape which you can get at every Office store. I further fixed the host kit with this duck tape at the window frame. Former reviewers complained about having problems with the window installation kit and I can say that duck tape solves (nearly) every problem of such kind. 3.) I bought this 12000 BTU to cool down a shed of approx 240 sqft BUT when buying it I considered the cbft i/o the sqft. It was the right decision because this machine has to work on fan setting 3 to get the cooling process successfully started in our shed on which the sun shines from 6AM til 8PM, no trees for shelter, no other shadow areas ! Take the cbft of the room AND the individual sun situation into consideration and it pays off to purchase an even bigger unit more than just being stuck with a toy airco which may be able to cool down the temperature of your swollen feet but nothing else!
